The Washington Post had some very interesting articles in today's (Thursday September 14) paper. The major story is the release of scientist Wen Ho Lee. The Judge who released him said, "It is only the top decision makers in the executive branch, especially the Department of Justice and the Department of Energy, who have caused embarrassment by the way this case began and was handled. They did not embarrass me alone. They have embarrassed our entire nation and each of us who is a citizen of it." Of course Janet Reno is not easily embarrassed. But who can deny that the Clinton administration has been one embarrassment after another. In what other administration was so much time spent agonizing over a certain stain on a blue dress? Even non-conservatives must be embarrassed by all the sleazy scandals and the ridiculous excuses offered by Clinton and Gore to defend themselves. How could a vice president actually offer as a defense the excuse that he drank too much ice tea at a meeting and thus was indisposed when incriminating statements were made? Too much ice tea? These people have no shame or sense of embarrassment. Another interesting article appeared on the Federal Page about a sexual harassment charge by a chef against the head pastry chef at the White House. (Sexual harrassment in the Clinton White house - what a surprise). In the last paragraph, the Post reports that another chef had claimed he was the victim of discrimination because he was dating a black women. Although this charge was dismissed, what's interesting is that the EEOC found that the White House improperly retaliated against him by interrogating him on "false charges of trying to poison the first family and kill his kitchen colleagues." Intimidating troublesome employees with false accusations? Doesn't this sound famiiliar. We went through this before in the travel office scandal. These White House guys never learn. And apparently they are never embarrassed by anything. |
